Courthouse Center Stage: Bridge to Broadway®

Junior Rep Company

The Courthouse Center Stage educational mission is to offer the highest level of professional classes for kids of all ages: sharpening skills they need to succeed in the world of entertainment, providing greater access to the profession, and, above all, helping them to attain greater confidence, the ability to listen to others, and greater capacity to express themselves.

During the 2012-2013 academic year we’ll be offering a variety of classes, taught by professional instructors: Acting the Song, How to Study Musical Theater . . . Without Really Trying, Dialect and Accents and How to Lose your RI accent, The Art of Ensemble, Film Shorts, Decoding Shakespeare, Audition as a Pro and more. All under our Bridge to Broadway® banner.
And our headliner for summer 2013 is New York Times best-selling author JODI PICOULT (“My Sister’s Keeper,” etc.), who’ll work with our kids’ summer performance workshop. We’ll produce “SUPER,” one of her hit musicals for kids, and Jodi will be here on-site to help make our production a smash! Scholarships are available; we belive every child should have the access to nurture their talents and passions through hard work.

We’re also excited to be embarking on the inaugural year of the Courthouse Center Stage Junior Rep Company. This company is made up of talented musical theater actors who’ve proven themselves capable of preparation and passion for performance. They meet weekly to receive training in dance, voice, acting and ensemble work and will have the opportunity to participate in three mainstage productions. The kids are also given the critical opportunity to audition for NY casting agents twice a year.

In addition to traditional performances, the Jr. Rep Company is sponsoring a Harvest Cabaret to benefit the RI Food Bank and Valentine Singing Telegrams to benefit the RI Heart Association. If adequate funding is secured, the company, under the direction of Artistic Director, Richard Ericson, will prepare productions of “SUPER” (by Jodi Picoult) and “HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN” to be offered free of charge August 22-24th, 2013 and the Courthouse, traveling to three elementary schools in Sept, 2013.
